Japanese Encephalitis

Japanese encephalitis is caused by JE Virus, grouped with other Flaviviruses and transmitted by Culex spp. and primarily by Culex tritaeniorhyncus and the secondary vector is Culex quinquefasciatus. The virus is transmitted to humans from pigs or birds. The infected people would experience symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, neurologic symptoms, seizures commonly occur among children, develop encephalitis (infection of the brain). The treatment for this case is symptomatic, and vaccine is available to prevent disease.
